Yates Residence

RESIDENCE

This Mediterranean-inspired home sits atop a limestone bluff in The Park at Lincoln Heights commanding an expansive view of the city and the hill country. Drawing upon the rich precedents of neighboring Olmos Park, the house combines a stucco exterior finished in ochres with white trim, variegated clay tile roof and custom cast stone columns at the living room porch and exterior fireplace pavilion. The interiors of the 4,400 square foot home continue the themes of the exterior with deeply coffered beams in the dining and living rooms, carved cantera stone fireplace surround, and custom-designed wrought iron lighting fixtures. From the two-story entry tower, one either enters the dining area with its expansive views, or ascends the wrought-iron flanked stairs to the private bedroom above. The dining room with its patterned travertine floor opens to the formal living room with its signature two-story bay windowed alcove. Adjacent to the living room is the music area which opens into the family’s informal den and kitchen or to the exterior arcade and fireplace pavilion with its adjacent patio and terra cotta fountain. The house was designed to make extensive use of exterior “rooms” as well as the interior spaces for entertaining and family use.
